Have you upgraded to HD? I agree that
the old ntsc is no where near as pleasurable
as HD. I was just like you too until I upgraded.
I lost interest in film broadcasts in the
late 80's when laserdiscs went to original
aspect ratio and hbo didnt. But now I have
multiple movie channels all showing widescreen
and some even in 2.35:1 aspect, I am back
into film broadcasts more than ever. Dont
judge "television" only by what you currently
have in terms of playback and services. Its
gotten way way better in ways you probably
least expected.

Your definition of pleasure differs slightly from mine. I think I
watch about three hours of TV a week and most of that is repeats.

If it wasn't for my stash of British comedy DVDs I'd just about sell
the television.
