I don't recall the lens being all that big. Are you sure it was a 135? I too saw it in the theater, though it was at least five years ago, when it was remastered (or something like that) and released to a small number of theaters around the country. I've loved that movie since I was little, when my dad first showed it to my brothers and I ("I know your caper!" became a catchphrase in my family). The theater I saw it in was even an old-fashioned, very ornate, single-screen venue, which my dad said was a lot like the theaters he went to as a kid.
