My stepson hates having things in his pocket. So he throws things away everywhere. That's quite annoying for those surrounding him, but that's the way he is. He also has a thing about his shoes. Can spend five minutes tying them.
What am I trying to say? Two things: First that this "disliking having things hanging around" thing sounds familiar. Second, that people are different. Some likes straps, some don't, and some adapt.
