Hi Paul, This caught my eye, so I thought I'd add something. The battery pack is the TR Power Pack III and is now available. It uses standard "C" cells. I have the older Power Pack II which looks exactly the same to me, but the 540-something manual says I cant use it with the newer flash "for mechanical reasons." Whatever that means. I've tried the version II with the 540 and all seems to work fine. Recycle times are significantly decreased. An email to Pentax gets some vague jibberish that says nothing at all. So I guess it works. I got mine used a couple of years ago for $90. I think B&H has the TR III new for about $140 or so.
BTW, what size Flash-Extender works on the 540-something?
