The build quality of the FA35/2 AL is excellent. Compared to the A series 35/2.8 I had, which was quite nice, the only real difference in mechanical feel is that the FA35 has less stiction in the focusing ring.
I never did find a 35/2 manual focus lens, but from everything I've seen and heard, the FA35/2 is the best performer in this focal length that Pentax has produced. It is good enough that I find the FA31 Limited ridiculously overpriced for the amount of advantage it provides.
