Possible theory for banding related to battery life: Sensor noise is due (at least in part) to random thermal noise associated with the temperature of the photosite. Astro-photographers often cool their sensors with Peltier or liquid nitrogen to reduce the sensor temperature. Banding would tend to indicate some sort of *systemic* noise generation. Possibly "hot spots" in the camera or sensor. I remember seeing a link to some photos to a DSLR (Nikon 10Mp IIRC) where there was a lot of noise in the corner of an image. Most likely a part of the camera that got warmer than the rest and produced more sensor noise. A dead/dying battery might be so because of use... and that use could be making warm areas within the camera. -Cory -- ************************************************************************* * Cory Papenfuss, Ph.D., PPSEL-IA * * Electrical Engineering * * Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University * ************************************************************************* -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net
