You must have missed my LICENSING comment. This is
done all the time in high end audio. Specialty makers
license and modify products for niche markets rather
than attempt to start from scratch. That wouldnt
make any sense for a M42 DSLR product.

But Pentax or any other major won't do it. Only a niche marketer  
would ever consider it. They'd be starting from scratch. Down the
