A too high shutterspeed will not give you underexposure, but will partially
not expose the negative at all, because during the flash the shutter is
obscuring the negative partially. The part of the negative that is exposed
however should still show a correct exposure.
Whether the non exposed area is an horizontal or vertical one, depends on
the movement direction of the shutter. Newer ones will move in vertical
direction, leaving a horizontal area unexposed if set at a too high speed.
