Some interesting dialog on Scanners here. Just thought I would share my
perspective.
I have an older HP Photosmart S20. It has been out of production for several
years and I had not used it for awhile, until I got my new desktop computer
last year. It has XP Pro, and as I was hooking up the scanner to do a slide,
I remembered that there was something in the installation instructions that
said it was not compatible with XP. As I was looking for the manual, I heard
the computer "beep". I looked to see the window that said "My new Hardware
was ready to use"! I had never been real happy with the scanner under ME
(Old Computer), but I have to say this thing began a new life with XP.
It is only 2600 dpi max, and will scan slides, film strips, and up to 5x7
prints. The print scans are at 300 dpi max, and my dedicated Canon flatbed
still does a better job in that area. But I am totally happy with the
results on film.
Here is a scan of a 1977 Kodachrome 64 slide.
