Maybe everybody else already knows this, but I just recently discovered a very useful feature in the cheap software that comes bundled with most scanners and digital cameras. I've written up how to do it, along with "before" and "after" pictures. (Of course, after I proudly showed my wife what I had achieved, she declared that she likes the "before" picture better.
