for basic editing, QuickTime Pro should be enough ($30 from Apple, 
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/pro/). You will be able to compress your 
movies using the H.264 codec too.

VirtualDub (free, http://www.virtualdub.org/) is also capable program, 
but probably doesn't support .mov files natively.
