FWIW -
I saw something similar done by a local photog (Monte Nagler) of the Detroit 
skyline. He shot a night shot & also a day shot from the exact same 
location, with identical equipment. He then flipped (top to bottom) the 
night shot & matched them, one above the other @ the water line - really 
spectacular.

Your night shot sure is a candidate for that process.
