Photographs are my stock in trade, not formatted textual documents. I send PDF documents when people want print-ready finished textual information, and plain text when they want to incorporate my work into their layouts, web sites, etc.
I've not found a word processor yet that had any difficulty reading a plain ASCII text document, Tom. It makes things much easier than sending .doc files that might or might not format properly.
