My 5 year old uses my old Optio S and seems to get pretty good results... for a 5 year old i.e. tilted and out of focus. Kinda like knarf :-) For an 8 year old I'd suggested something with a better grip and easy to reach shutter button, but I wouldn't dumb it down like the fisher-price style cams.
