Beer, or apple juice aside, that seems to do a good job for that kind of fill.
One of the people that took that basic portrait class last year(and a K10D owner)had one of these flash units on his Sigma 500. I always thought his shots were under exposed. I guess it was not set up properly then, after seeing yours.
