If a lens works flawlessly for the first couple of years of it's life, the odds are pretty much 100% that anything that derails it after that will be something that voids the warranty anyway (impact, for example), so you are going to have an expensive repair bill, warranty or no warranty. If you really want insurance, bump up your homeowners package instead, and make sure that your camera equipment is covered for all losses. Extended warranties are, for the most part, a waste of money. When I sold camera for Astral Photo, they pushed us really hard to sell extended warranties, IIRC, one Christmas season the spiff on a warranty was close to 30%, and we were told that it was a pure profitmaker, as the claims % was really small.
