So, ever since I had my 16-50 serviced to fix the broken barrel... it's not been able to get a focus confirmation at infinity.
I've been working around it with the AF-C option, which lets the camera zap it to (nearly) infinity and then it just trips the shutter because I told it to. Well, in preparation for shooting a big concert event on Tuesday night, I decided to put my old Katz-Eye into the K10D. I've heard from more than one source that the DS-designed Katz-Eye underexposes on the K10D but I'll be shooting manual exposure all tomorrow night so exposure issues don't bug me as much as getting the proper focus. Interesting bit I've noticed now that I have a microprism/split prism focus confirmation guide on the screen is that the darned thing CANNOT focus on infinity. I can get very very close, but any vertical fenceposts or other obvious focus-confirmation guidelines show me that I can get the lens to ALMOST get to the infinity mark, but not quite there. (sigh) So, the obvious reason for not getting a focus confirmation lock on infinity is that the lens cannot get that far. As the warranty repair of the barrel states that the repairs/adjustments are warranted for a year, it's time to send the sucker back. Even when mounted on my ME-Super I can see that the lens does not quite get to the infinity spot. Heck, if this wasn't still under warranty I'd figure out how to adjust it myself - but shoot, how can someone MISS something this obvious when servicing a lens??? My oft-repeated mantra: "I just want people to do their jobs". I'm a little bit more than annoyed that Pentax service let the lens come back to me with such an obvious mis-adjustment. Such is life, I suppose. -Charles -- Charles Robinson - [EMAIL PROTECTED] Minneapolis, MN http://charles.robinsontwins.org -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
