They don't taste right without the smoke.

Every once in a while I'll wander into some greasy spoon and the smell 
of cigarettes, coffee and bacon will have just the right blend and bring 
me instantly back to my Grandmother's kitchen.  She passed away in '87. 
  I've always found it amazing how smells can trigger that sort of thing.
