Aussies are notorious for hating any of their countrymen who actually make a living at what they like doing. Especially if that fame is outside Australia. And their wives aren't Aussie either (Paul's first was). Check the history and you will find that the reason the British used the Aussie troops in WWI at Gallipoli and in WWII in North Africa mainly is that they were so hard to control and lacked military discipline that they wanted to use them as far from the UK and their own units as possible.
