It's not a stupid idea.  I think it's cool that you found a lens that
you like so much that you're willing to go through some machinations to
keep it.  And who cares if it matches your camera - that it matches your
preferences for optical performance, or physical qualities, is all that
matters.  Personally, I like the Ltd. look on a black body - to my eye
it looks nicer than on a chrome body.  The combination has something of
a retro look to it.
