Sorry, Larry, I never solved that problem myself. Ended up with all kinds of bags, changing gear from one to another and then missing something I left home. Then I made a mistake - travelled with Lx + Zx5 + Fg grip + 24mm + 28~200 + 135mm + Af 280t + Vivitar 285 + Cokin kit + 2x + Hassel + 3 backs + polaroid + 50mm + 150mm + prism + Sinar F + 75mm + 150mm + 2 tripods + focusing cloth for the Sinar. Never again.

Today:

"serious" bag: Mx, borrowed PZ70 until my LX recovers, any four lenses selected for broad range or specific uses. Vivitar 285. Gossen Lightmeter. Table top tripod. Usually into an old f64 bag. Tripod, small if possible, slung from the other shoulder.

"casual": Mx or said PZ70, 2 or 3 lenses, one in the body, selected according to state of mind - I know I'm about to miss some gear left home, but I'll chance it anyway. Circular polarizer, no flash, table top tripod. Any bag will do. Dirty and battered outside preferred. Lately into modified backpack.

"everyday": Mx with 28~70 f4, 50mm with reverse adapter and #1 ext tube doubling as lens shade, table top tripod and circular polarizer, into a modified nondescript bag with added internal pads to hold the goods with less banging.

"wet": Nikon L35AW waterproof P&S, slung under long sleeves loose cotton shirt. Roll top waterresistant bag carrying disposable cellphone and photo id. Usually nearby a white kayak or swimming fins. Not as used as I'd like.

All but "wet" include extra film, batts, ordinary 1" paint brush, lens tissue and small vinyl fish from my son doubling as lucky charm and lens blower. All lenses carried with shades, xcept 50mm that is always set with reverse adapter and small ext tube.

"serious" includes extras above and filter wrench, Cokin set, extra protective filters.

If you're about to build a secondary gear carrier, try a hard case. I have one (Yellow, Nikon) that came home after a bet. Really protective, really evident. Travelled most of S America, good part of Europe and US. Yes, airline folks hate me - same as BR customs officers.

I've got a Fastpack 350 which I use as my every day backpack. That way
I always have my camera with me, can carry laptop, wallet etc.

Heretofore I've pretty much had four sets of lenses:

My first line lenses: stay in the bag.
My bigma: usually mounted on a bushhawk, it's either at home or in the
trunk of the car
My m42 lenses, extension tube and bellows: sitting in a drawer at home
My second line lenses: They're mostly just swap fodder.

I also have my AF 540, small tripod, big tripod, IR converted FZ20,
two promaster flashes with IR filters for the FZ20 and a few other
bits of gear.

I just ordered the DA40 from prodigital, with that my "first line" kit
will consist of:
18-250
FA 31
FA 50
macro 50/2.8
FA 77
M 135/2.5
DA 40

If I'm going to continue buying lenses, or want to have access to some
of my "second kit" I really need to get a bag for carrying lenses. How do other folks solve this issue? I don't want to call having this
many lenses a problem, or even "too many" lenses. But it is more than
I want to always carry around.
