I got my K20 and FA31 back on Monday.

As soon as I was confident that it was working properly I installed
the Katzeye screen. One of the copper adjustment shims fell out from
behind the screen. I finally figured out how to get the shim back
in. I also managed, unfortunately, to get a bit of dust on the
focusing screen. Arrgggh.

When everything was settled, I noticed that the autofocus point didn't
match the manual focus point. It was rather subtle and I probably
would not have noticed on the factory screen, but I did notice with
the katzeye.

I did a quick test, and it turned out that the autofocus was correct.
I sent Rachel Katz a note and she called me on my cell phone a few
minutes later.

It turns out that they've been having a lot of trouble with
K20Ds. Since focus can be adjusted electronically, Pentax doesn't seem
to put the effort into the precision adjustment of the physical
mechanism. Especially since, to a first approximation, nobody uses
manual focus.

She also commented that it was weird that my camera had two shims,
almost no Pentaxes have two shims, so I pulled the extra one back
out. She emailed me her focus test directions, and following her
procedure I did some tests last night on both my K20 and my K100,
while I had the test set up. Manual focus seems spot on.

My guess is that They measured what the camera needed in the way of
shims, installed a shim, and didn't test and discover that there were
two shims stuck together.

The day that my camera was shipped from Pentax, they also posted the
1.03 firmware. However, my camera was not updated at Pentax, so I
updated it last night. I haven't used it enough to be able to notice
a difference. For that matter, I haven't had a chance to use my
camera for anything but a few test shots since I got it back.

I did get a chance to quickly try Pentax Remote Assistant last
night. I was very disappointed in it. It was very slow, and the
pictures aren't very big. I suppose that they are bigger than on the
LCD. I should also try it on my girlfriends macbook rather than my 12"
G4 powerbook, or maybe my iMac to see if a faster USB on the computer
makes a difference.

Has anyone on this list done any tests of speed with SD cards?

I've been using 128-133x 2G SD cards in my K100. With the bigger
file sizes of the K20, I decided to try a bigger card in it. rather
than spending $10 for a 2G SD card, I spent $32 for a 16G SDHC class 6
card. IIRC, 128x SD is about 10M bps, while class 6 SDC is about 5.

In my K100, the SDHC card seemed slower, and with the small buffer in
the K100 speed is an issue. I haven't tried doing rapid fire on the
K20, filling the buffer and timing how long it takes to empty the
buffer, or take the next picture, yet.
