It's hard to know. It's also hard to know if he actually staged it after more than 70 years. You'd have to find the exact spot the photo was supposedly taken and use a lens of the same effective focal length and do an exhaustive series of photographs and do serious photo interpretation to be sure one way or another, and still the issue would be in doubt. It looks to me that the evidence cited is totally anecdotal and after this amount of time has elapsed would be highly suspect.

It looked to me from the article that they had found the exact spot (within a few yards anyway), and that said spot was several miles from the actual fighting.
At least that's how I read it, anyway.
