Hi!

I bought LightRoom when it came out. I never looked back on any photo
editing software ever since. I do have GIMP on my computer (in
portable form from www.portableapps.com) but I don't use it. No need,
really.

I do use GIMP only if I want to download a picture from a photo forum,
edit it some and post it back to let the author know how I would have
done it. For that GIMP is (almost) sufficient. Most recently I learned
that whatever function in GIMP does rotation is very weak in keeping
picture sharpness (unlike LightRoom).

The GIMP that I have says that it is color managed. Well, whatever I
saved from it, indeed looks just like I want it to look, no color
management problems.

In a nutshell - I do recommend LightRoom (or any other complete
photographic workflow system) as it works good, does what I want and
unlike PhotoShop is streamlined and clear in function and interface.
