It's doable but difficult. Much easier is a monopod and a normal ball head. Rotate the camera in portrait position on the monopod and experiment a little. The bottom part of the monopod should align with the nodal point of the lens. Put a spirit level in the hotshoe and rotate the contraption. If you're interested I make a few photos of the setup.
