Thanks, dom. There's a Native American fiction writer, Sherman Alexie,
who's written a collection of short stories called *The Lone Ranger and
Tonto Fistfight in Heaven* that you might like. Also, there's a superb
book by photographer John Running called *Honor Dance* (U of Nevada Press,
copyright 1985). My favorite portrait in this collection is called *Apache
hunter*. The colors in this work are absolutely stunning as is the use of
light. Virtually all of the photographs were shot in Nevada on
reservations. I certainly captured color in my little geso, but next to
John Running's work, my stuff looks . . . well, there's no comparison. John
Running's work is a bizillion times better. :-). Cheers, Christine

wow! stunning colours and great photos .. they give the feeling of the
movement when so many photos of these events are static .. and i love the
contrast between the dancers lost in their inner world and the people in
the background ..

Hi Everyone:
Paul Sorenson wasn't able to meet Darrel & me at the Native American
Festival for a little PDML meet up. This was, of course, a
disappointment,
but hopefully we'll catch up with him soon. Still, watching the
highly
talented dance competitors was wonderful. We had such a good time
and plan
to go back next year.
The event began with an opening ceremonial dance (and a few
speeches). Once
the drums started and the singing began, I was so totally caught in
the
emotional moment I forgot to start taking pictures. It was truly
incredible. We saw dancers in all categories: Seniors, Teens, and
Kids,
but we did miss the Tiny Tot competition because Darrel wanted to
get home
to watch the Bears game. The Green Bay Packers beat the Bears, so
Paul
Sorenson asserted his bragging rights off list :-). Sorry we
missed you,
Paul, but we'll catch up with you soon!
