Cue the old saw about how the size of the space shuttle was influenced
by the width of a horses ass.

I thought it was the width of railroad tracks in Britain. I follow the part about two horses wide on chariots & the ruts in old Roman roads influencing the wagon makers who made the first railroad cars ... but have never heard how that extends out to the space shuttle.
