The USB 1.1 external HD's running through LR and saving on C drive is
painfully slow.
Twenty two conversion took 1 1/2 hours, mostly in lifting from the
external i am thinking.
Maybe $700 for a new PC build is not far off.
Until about a year ago, I was using a 700MHz machine. I would load the
PEF files onto the hard drive via USB1. About 20 minutes for a full 2GB
card. Conversion via the Pentax Laboratory would take about a minute
for each file. Writing a DVD would be another hour or so.
New machine times are ~1.5 minutes, ~10 seconds and ~15 minutes with
verification.
Paradoxically, this is not as good as it sounds. Previously, I knew I
could start the process and then go and do something useful. Now I sit
at the machine.
