I  didn't feel it was that good in color because it is a very high contrast 
 picture. Darkened highlights quite a bit and maybe now it is okay. Felt 
B&W  gave me more control over contrast.

That usually happens when I take  photos of deer around here -- half in 
shadow, half in direct sunlight. Usually  high contrast. 
 
And or they are right next to a building, lawn, or obviously trimmed hedge. 
 So they look sort of strange, not natural. Actually it is natural for 
them, they  are suburban deer. ;-) No hunting in residential areas, so they 
somewhat  plentiful and unafraid. Though when building initially around here 
started, that  wasn't true. Took them about 10-15 years to move back in after 
condos displaced  them from their natural habitat.
