Norwegian nature videographer Arne Nævra did the same thing last year; dived with a leopard seal. His experience was very similer. In the commentary to the programme, he referred to the casualty in 2003 when a British marine biologist died after being dragged under water by a seal: http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn3978-inquiry-into-fatal-leopard-seal-attack-begins.html He pointed out that it's not determined if the seal was attacking with the purpose of feeding, or if it was just being inquisitive and/or playful.
