I don't have a K-X kit lens in hand, but I do have the version which
came with the K-m, and it's the same lens. It is reported to be
optically identical to the Mark II. However, note that in addition
to having a plastic lens mount it does not have QuickShift focusing
and lacks a distance scale on the barrel, and does not come with a
hood (another $20 from B&H...). It looks and feels cheaper than
the regular Mark II version, but it works just fine.
thanks Jim, now i know what i am getting. :) i have placed an order for
the k-x with the kit lens and it should be with me in a matter of
days.... (am getting it through a friend who is in the US now.)

as an aside, i still can't figure out why the k-x body alone costs $580
at amazon while the one with the kit lens costs $550... :))
