Same here. You could of course argue that if the warranty period is over all possible manufacturing issues have had their fair chance to emerge but you never know about the life of the lens - if it just sat there throughout the warranty period seeing no use then that would not be a valid assumption to make. Unless I can pick up something in like new condition for less than 55% of new, I generally buy new or just keep waiting. I got three of my four Pentax lenses through that thinking so it works for me quite well. I'm a hobbyist, I don't make a cent from this and I have other cost centers in my life.
