The A100/2.8 Macro is somewhat prone to picking up reflections off the sensor and sending them back as image forming light.
It's a great lens in every other respect, so it is kind of annoying.

Is that the kind of bluish smudge looking area in the center of the top section?

I've not yet seen that in my photos. I'm not doubting you, I just have never seen it before. I'll keep an eye out for it in the future.
