I guess maybe "validate" is the wrong word. The emails are sort of the "This is the last email you will receive from us unless you respond immediately" variety.
i was describing how i usually feel comfortable unsubscribing from the larger category of emails, the ones where you said you didn't want to click the link, not just the ones where "this is your last email" turned out to be false; but either way, in most cases i don't think you'd lose privacy by clicking such a link, and you would save the trouble/grumbles of further emails
