Another great firefly show last night, and I again tried to capture it on pixels, perhaps with a bit more success. I've found that without letting the background go almost black, I get nothing. Of course, it's not much of a picture if you can't see some of the environment, so black and midrange work in post is necessary.

I'm shooting from about 50 feet away with a 60mm focal length to compress it all, while avoiding a need for critical focus. Note that the fireflies which move faster while lit have long trails. I believe it's also a function of how close to camera they are. I think that guy at top right was only about 15 feet away.

Exposure was f 13, 30 seconds, ISO 320.
