Buying the 17-28 would be good if (1) you shoot film, or (2) you are sure that 
Pentax is going to produce a camera with a 35mm format sensor.

The 17-28 fits the Pentax digital bodies nicely, but doesn't provide much 
fisheye effect--it becomes the 35mm equivalent of 25-42mm.

As for the merchant...
