Boy, I disagree....

I think the black and white is rather cliche and boring (and a bit too soft) .... but the color is a "This is like it really was" photo... the silhouette is a major part of the composition... My nit with the color one is that the sun itself is a bit too bright.

Yes, the foreground is the big problem with the cruise ship image.  It
is a very ugly dock.  It each image, my subject was the sun, and the
ships are really there to give the sun something to reflect on, so to
speak.
