I think everybody gets "the urge". The question is whether you succumb.

It's not a new thing; I bought new film bodies occasionally, too.
The first "upgrade" was to replace my Spotmatic II with an MX.
Then, on an assignment on the other side of the world (New Zealand)
I made my travel plans to include Singapore, and visited the main
Pentax dealer. I had a budget for lenses (and a non-Pentax flash),
but ended up with an ME in the bag as well without going over budget!

The MX stayed in use for 25 years, but the other body changed; first
to an ME Super, and then to a Super Program. That combination lasted
for 12 years (during which time I was doing less and less photography),
but eventually I bit the auto-focus bullet and picked up a PZ-1p.
That camera supplanted the MX as my primary body, but the MX still came
along as backup until I moved to an MZ-S (with the PZ-1p as backup).

By the time the *ist-D came along I was more than ready for the digital
age, and grabbed one as soon as they came out. Since then I've picked
up a K10D, but managed to resist all the others. The K7 was hardest to
resist, but by the time it came along I was back to casual photography,
so as the K10D was still doing almost everything that I needed I decided
to wait for a first kicker to see if it adressed the drawbacks of the K7.
As what I was hoping for was improvements to frame rate and auto-focus
I expect to pick up a K5. It would be a no-brainer except for the fact
that we also accquired an Olympus micro four-thirds system the day before
a combination of circumstances caused us to reset the household spending
priorities (not to mention the kitchen remodel we just finished), so
the photography equipment budget is a little more constrained than it
was last year. I expect I'll still get a K5, but maybe not by Christmas.
