I remember once when I was a kid (around Grace's age, I would guess) my grandmother, for no reason at all, gave me a nickel (anyone remember when a nickel could buy lots of penny-candy at the corner store?). My mother said, "Don't, you'll spoil him!" My grandmother told her to "Shush! That's what grandmothers are supposed to do."
