Subject: k-5, still early, but...
Pentax seems to have a slam dunk here. Image quality is indisputably the
equal of many 24 x 36 cameras (all DSLRs have a "full frame"), and based
on statistical evidence it surpasses a number of them. Based on my own
observations after a couple hundred frames, the camera is amazingly
capable.
The jury is still out on other things. Autofocus is definitely much
improved. Hard to see for sure how good it is. But it's better than the
K7, which was better than the K20. Exposure accuracy seems to be at least
as good as the K7, which is excellent in that regard.
And one more thing: the shutter is even quieter than that of the K-7. And
that's very quiet indeed.
I am very pleased, and the Pentax decision to focus on APS-C sized sensors
and medium format appears to have been a very good one.
Looks like I might be putting my K10D & K20D up for sale. Thanks for the
update, Paul. I have a very serious eye on the K5. But if you do any more
testing on the low light autofocus I'd very much like to hear about your
results. Cheers, Christine
