Quite.  Especially since "half frame" was the original frame size.
When "miniature" cameras using 35mm movie film stock came along
they ran the film horizontally, not vertically, so a landscape
orientation took up twice as many sprocket holes as a movie frame
(and changed the aspect ratio from 4:3 to 3:2 at the same time).

Current "APS-C" DSLRs are truer to the original 35mm film heritage
than those bastard film SLRs we had to suffer with in the interim.
