Quoted from an offical USPS publication: "Irradiation will be used on targeted mail, not all mail. All of the mail from Brentwood and Trenton has been radiated. The only mail currently being irradiated is mail going to specific government offices in certain zip codes. Irradiating all mail simply is not practical....... .....The irradiation process can have various adverse effects on certain products sent through the mail. These products include: Biological samples -- blood, fecal, etc. Diagnostic kits, such as those used to monitor blood sugar levels Photographic film Food Eyeglasses and contact lenses Electronic devices would likely be rendered inoperable The efficacy and safety of drugs and medicines can be affected."
