The life span of a dog has alot to do with the size of the animal (smaller living longer), I had a wonderful Malamute 'Bear' that weighed around 125 lbs & lived for a little more than 13 years

12 isn't old, I've had a dog live to be 19, almost 20, now that's old. (Not bragging by the way, I mean in the last year of his life is was /very/ *old*).
