Those folks who were discussing wind-up radios and the like as a 'cure'
for digital camera batteries might like a look at the following:

So you could keep a digital camera going on a long hike for example.
Speaking of which, did anyone ever see the TV documentary series 'Skeleton
Coast' (I think) with Benedict Allen in which he trekked alone across the
Namib desert? He had a small digital camcorder and he seemed to keep it
running for weeks apparently without a mains power source - any idea how
he did that? Solar recharger?
