happy to help puzzle out mystery birds!

This is indeed a juvenile bald eagle, most likely just about a year old based 
on 
the darkness of theĀ  plumage and the white just starting to appear on the head. 
The incredibly large bill and the shape of the bill are also characteristic of 
the species. These birds don't get the mature white head and white tail until 
they are almost four years old.

Please identify the immature eagle(?) pictured in the attached photo.

Photo taken 1/17/2011 in Butte Co. CA, State Wildlife Area's, Gray Lodge. Twice
recently, I've seen an adult Bald Eagle in the same vicinity.
