Seriously, there might be some other subtleties at work here, which is why I asked. Tech Pan in a low-contrast soup supposedly gives skin a "glow" (according to Kodak) -- maybe it makes Caucasians look like ghosts? I suppose depending on how you printed it, you could very well end up with relatively dark lips on the subjects, especially if you didn't get sufficiently low contrast in the development of the negative. Like Shel said, this Tech Pan stuff is tricky to work with. (Especially if you're trying to do lower-contrast work, I'd think.)
