PentaxForums.com has made an effort to map serial numbers and faulty
cameras, but it's a futile exercise because the serial number on the
bottom of the camera tells you nothing about the production batch of
the CCD assembly. I talked to a Norwegian Pentax rep about this, and
he said you need a Pentax diagnostic software module hooked up to the
camera to find an internal "lot number", which in turn will tell
Pentax in Japan whether the camera is among those affected. It is also
true that the affected cameras is from a batch produced some time
before 1. December 2010. If you buy from a dealer with reasonable
throughput, the likelihood of getting a dud is very small by now.
