Larry, PentaxForums.com has made an effort to map serial numbers and faulty cameras, but it's a futile exercise because the serial number on the bottom of the camera tells you nothing about the production batch of the CCD assembly. I talked to a Norwegian Pentax rep about this, and he said you need a Pentax diagnostic software module hooked up to the camera to find an internal "lot number", which in turn will tell Pentax in Japan whether the camera is among those affected. It is also true that the affected cameras is from a batch produced some time before 1. December 2010. If you buy from a dealer with reasonable throughput, the likelihood of getting a dud is very small by now.
