Hmm... One indicator is the apparent gait. The fox likes to travel at
a light trot even on bumpy terrain, consistent with the pacing of
these tracks.

The only possible mix-up is with a dog of similar size. The decisive
difference between dogs and foxes is the width of the paw imprint, so
my photo can't prove anything. If it was a dog, however, it would have
to be a stray. The only human track was before the last snowfall five
days ago. The likelihood of a stray dog is very small. I don't believe
it would have the necessary hunting skills for these conditions.
Current snow depth is more than a meter.
