I'll add that to my reading list too.
Tangentially, there are other space operas that may apply too.
"Pushing Ice" by Alistair Reynolds and "Gardens of the Sun" by Paul J.
McAuly for starters. The latter is especially fascinating to
biologists. :-)

What made me think about "Left hand of darkness" is the way LeGuin
describes the aridness of a frozen wilderness. It sort of resonnates
with the way Herbert describes the desert aridness of Arrakis, IMO.
