The times I've shot there I used a 300 & it wasn't enough for a lot of the
shots as the waves were breaking far out & that was where most of the action
was, but I wasn't going to drag along anything bigger.

Yes. I left my 300mm home, and I regretted it for the hour I spent
watching the surfers. With the new airline restrictions on check-in
bags and carry-on bags, I no longer take my big camera bag when we
travel; just one body and two zooms. Oh well.
